BNP office, leader's house vandalised in Bagerhat
The BNP office in Sarui area of Bagerhat city was vandalised, and an attack was carried out on the district BNP convener's house in the same area today, local BNP leaders claimed.
BNP organised mass rallies in all districts and metropolises except Dhaka today demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Mirza Abbas and all other detained BNP men.
Bagerhat district BNP convener ATM Akram Hossain Talim has alleged that
Chhatra League leaders and activists attacked his house and vandalised it in the morning, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
"My cousin's wife passed away around 10:00am today. We were preparing for the burial. At that time, BCL leaders and activists came on motorcycles and attacked our house. They chased away our relatives and neighbours," he said. Former district BNP president MA Salam said, "Around 9:30am, Jubo League and Chhatra League men came and broke the doors and windows of our office. The police have also arrested our leaders and activists. That is why we could not carry out the programme announced by the centre."
Convener Akram said, "Police surrounded our office from this morning. That's why none of our leaders and activists could enter there. They also detained four people who were preparing to take out a procession."
KM Azizul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bagerhat Sadar Model Police Station, told The Daily Star, "No one came to complain about it. If a complaint is received, necessary action will be taken subject to investigation."
Bagerhat district Chhatra League General Secretary Nahian Al Sultan Oshan could not be reached for comment as he did not answer his mobile phone.
