Approach of 1990 won’t work
A section of BNP's grassroots leaders said the party would not succeed if it tried to launch a movement like it had in 1990 to force the government to hold a free and fair election under a non-partisan interim government as the situation has changed.
They said in the movement of 1990, there was people's participation and that there was no alternative to a planned and systematic movement to oust the government.
Party's executive committee member Farhad Hossain Azad said movement against Ershad in 1990 and movement against Sheikh Hasina in 2021 is not the same.
"There was a huge change in the administration. So we have to wage movement systematically," he said.
The party's Chattogram, Sylhet, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Cumilla districts leaders said this to BNP high-ups during a meeting at the party chairperson's Gulshan office yesterday.
The party is holding a series of closed-door meetings to learn what the grassroots activists think should be their strategy ahead of the next parliamentary polls.
In the second day of the second round of meetings, 129 party's executive committee leaders were invited and 85 leaders were present. In the six-hour-long discussion, a total of 63 leaders expressed their opinions.
