War criminal Sayedee dies at BSMMU
Convicted war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee died at the capital's Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University tonight.
"He died at 8:40pm," Brig Gen Dr Md Rezaur Rahman, director (hospital) of BSMMU, told The Daily Star.
Initially, he was taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur from Kashimpur Central Jail yesterday.
Later, he was moved to the BSMMU the same day as he reportedly suffered a heart attack.
Sayedee, 83, a former Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker from Pirojpur, was handed the death penalty by International Crimes Tribunal-1 in February 2013 after the Jamaat nayeb-e-ameer was found involved in killings in Pirojpur during the war.
Apart from the murders, the tribunal had also found Sayedee, who earned the nickname "Delu Razakar", guilty of abduction, torture, rape, persecution, and abetment to torture, looting, forceful religious conversions, and setting homes ablaze in rural areas of Pirojpur during the Liberation War.
