Unesco roundtable: Media houses yet to be women friendly
The workplace environment for media professionals is not particularly welcoming for women, and people do not have a full understanding of gender issue because they are not taught about it in school, speakers said in a roundtable yesterday.
Unesco in partnership with UN Women organised the roundtable discussion on Gender-friendly Working Environment in Media at a hotel in the capital yesterday.
In the discussion, speakers said that women presence in media is still disproportionately low and stressed that work needs to be done to create a congenial work environment for women in media.
Unesco Dhaka Officer-in-charge Susan Vize, Executive Editor of Dhaka Tribune Reaz Ahmad, Actress Azmeri Haque Badhon, Gitanjali Singh, country representative of UN Women, amomg others, participated in the discussion.
