Trial of graft case against Shahed begins
The trial against Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed in a case filed for acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 1.69 crore began at a Dhaka court with deposition of the complainant yesterday.
Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of the Special Judge's Court-10 of Dhaka recorded the statement of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Farid Ahmed Patwary, who filed the case.
Later, the defence for Shahed cross-examined the witness partly on different points.
The judge then fixed July 17 for the next hearing.
On April 17, the same court framed charges against Shahed in the case.
On March 1 last year, Patwary filed the case against Shahed with its Dhaka Integrated Office-1 for his alleged involvement with acquiring illegal wealth.
After an investigation, the ACC pressed charges on February 2.
Shahed was arrested on July 15 of 2020 from Debhata in Satkhira while he was trying to flee from the country.
On September 28 of 2020, Shahed was sentenced to life in jail in an arms case.
