Hundreds of ready-made garment workers yesterday staged a demonstration by blocking a road in Chattogram city's Bayezid Bostami area, demanding arrears.

The workers of Anwara Garments Factory blocked Bayezid Bostami Road in front of Atomic Energy Centre around 12:30pm, according to witnesses.

Vehicular movement was disrupted in several areas -- including Muradpur, GEC and Bayezid -- due to the blockade, which continued for nearly an hour, said Santosh Kumar Chakma, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khulshi Police Station.

The workers said their salaries of several months are pending.

However, Md Muktadir, human resources manager of the factory, claimed that only 15 days' salaries are due. He said they will try to resolve the issue after talking with all the stakeholders.

On information, police rushed to the spot and cleared the area.
