A daylong event titled "Celebrating July 36" has begun at the capital's Manik Mia Avenue, marking the anniversary of the July Mass Uprising.

The programme commenced around noon, with people from various parts of the city, including many the injured protesters or family members of those killed during last year's movement, joining the gathering.

Organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the event will feature the public reading of the July Declaration.

Professor Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser to the interim government, is scheduled to read the July Declaration at 5:00pm at the South Plaza of the National Parliament.

Bangladesh Television (BTV) will broadcast the event live.

The chief adviser will later address the nation at 8:20pm.
