DSCC to evict all encroachers gradually: Taposh

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said they will evict all the encroachers gradually to make Dhaka a livable city.

"Many parts of Dhanmondi lake were encroached and we have started work to recover the lake to bring back its aesthetic beauty, based on the design taken up by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 1998," said Taposh while inaugurating Kalabagan playground and its adjoining Shaheed Sheikh Russel Children Park today.

"Since taking charge as the mayor, we have given a strong message that we will evict all encroachers and we are evicting them gradually," he said.

Taposh said they have started recovering the Dhanmondi canal from encroachers, including the portion of the canal that could not be recovered earlier.

He said DSCC officials have visited the spot and their eviction drive will continue. Taposh said they will resume their canal works in January.

Giving a warning to the encroachers, the mayor said they will not serve any notice before evicting them.
