Will accept results of a fair poll even if I lose: Anwaruzzaman
Awami League mayoral candidate Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury today said he would accept the results of the Sylhet City Corporation elections even if he loses and the polls are fair.
The candidate said this after casting his vote with his family at Pathantula Shahjalal Jamia Islamia Kamil Madrasa centre at 8:15am.
"I believe in democracy," he told reporters. "My party is a democratic party. Even if I lose the election, I will accept the result."
Expressing optimism about winning the election, he said, "I want to fulfill the responsibilities to the people of Sylhet with honesty and dedication. I am ready to dedicate myself to fulfilling the demands and aspirations of the people of Sylhet. The people of the city will vote for me and elect me."
However, whatever the outcome, he will accept it, he added.
He also said that the people of the city are in a festive mood as they are casting votes easily with electronic voting machines.
Regarding the lack of pollkng agents of rival candidates in various centres, he said, "It is the candidates' problem. If they can't give agents, if they don't have people, we have nothing to do. We aren't obstructing anyone.
"Polling is going on smoothly, I believe such polling atmosphere will be maintained throughout the day. Everyone is voting spontaneously in a very beautiful environment," he said.
