Narayanganj city election on Jan 16: EC
Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) will go for election on January 16, Election Commission (EC) announced today.
Candidates will be able to submit their nominations to the returning officer till December 15.
The evaluation of nomination papers will be held on December 20 and the last date for withdrawal of candidacy is December 27, EC's Secretary Humayun Kabir Khandaker announced after a meeting at its office in the capital.
Around 5,00,000 voters are expected to cast their votes in the polls to elect a city mayor, 27 ward councillors and nine women councillors from the reserved seats.
In 2016, Awami League mayor candidate Selina Hayat Ivy won the NCC elections. She also won the race in the maiden election to the NCC held in 2011.
Besides, by-election to Tangail-7 constituency will also be held on January 16 and it will follow similar schedule, EC Secretary Humayun said.
The parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of AL lawmaker Akabbar Hossain.
