Barishal city polls: No outsiders allowed after midnight
No outsiders will be allowed in Barishal City Corporation area from midnight ahead of the city elections slated for June 12.
Md Saiful Islam, commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police, made the disclosure while addressing reporters at his office today.
"We will conduct drives after midnight. Except any valid reasons, no outsiders will be allowed to stay in the city," he said.
The commissioner said, "law is equal for all. Unless any valid reasons like treatment, we will not allow anyone to stay."
He, however, said they may overlook if any outsiders came to the city on official duty related to the election.
The commissioner urged Barishal city dwellers to send their relatives, who came to visit them in the last one week, back home.
Out of 126 polling centres, 106 were marked as "important", he said, adding, "We have planned our security arrangements based on that."
There will be a deployment of 18-member police team at regular polling centres and 19-member team at important ones, said the BMP chief.
He said 10 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh will be deployed on the election day. "We do not want people to panic, we want a festive atmosphere for the election," he added.
