5 injured in pre-UP polls clash between rival candidates’ supporters in Munshiganj
Five people have been injured in clashes between supporters of the ruling party-backed candidate and his rival, ahead of union parishad election of Char Kewa in Munshiganj Sadar upazila last night.
The clash took place between supporters of Afsar Uddin Bhuiyan, a candidate contesting with the boat symbol, and those of Akhtaruzzaman, a rebel candidate with pineapple symbol, in Khaskandi and Choto Mollakandi villages of the union from around 7pm to 10:30pm last night, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Abu Bakkar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station.
Shots were fired and cocktails were exploded during the clashes, he added.
The five injured were rushed to Munshiganj General Hospital. Three of them -- Saiful Sardar (22), Sharif Bepari (32) and Babu Hawlader (22) -- sustained bullet injuries and were sent to Dhaka for better treatment. The trio are supporters of Afsar, the police official said.
