Momen says ‘will remain alert’ about Afghan-trained terrorists
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today said Bangladesh will remain alert about Afghan-trained terrorists though they were "identified and uprooted".
While talking to journalists at an event in Foreign Service Academy, he reiterated that there is no scope for Bangladesh to give temporary shelter to people from Afghanistan, as requested by the US.
Asked what will be Bangladesh's position if other Saarc countries give shelter to Afghan people, Momen said they need to see the situation on the ground first before making a comment.
Last night, the foreign minister said that Bangladesh has turned down a request from the United States to give temporary shelter to some people from Afghanistan, saying Bangladesh is already facing difficulties after giving shelter to over 1.1 million Rohingyas.
Earlier, the minister said Bangladesh will welcome any government in Afghanistan if it's supported by its people.
"We believe in people's government… We believe in democratic government," he said, adding that Bangladesh's door will remain open if the Taliban government is supported by the people of Afghanistan.
The foreign minister said Bangladesh believes in friendship with all countries and will extend support if any government seeks it.
