‘Indians participating enthusiastically in events commemorating golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s liberation’
Bangladesh Navy Chief Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal visited Mumbai and interacted with Indian Navy's Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Naval Command, on Wednesday.
The two admirals discussed various issues pertaining to enhancing and strengthening interoperability, training, anti-terrorism collaboration and overall bilateral co-operation as part of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, the Indian Defence Ministry said today.
Admiral Hari Kumar, during his interaction with Admiral Shaheen Iqbal, said that India is proud to have contributed to the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971 and has immense respect for the role played and sacrifices made by the people of Bangladesh in the Liberation War.
He also said Indians are participating enthusiastically in many commemorative events of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's liberation, our New Delhi correspondent reports.
Admiral Hari Kumar also assured the visiting Admiral Shaheen Iqbal that all assistance required for the successful conduct of the International Fleet Review by Bangladesh in 2022 will be extended.
The Indian Navy officer was also highly appreciative of the training cooperation between the navies of Bangladesh and India and pointed out how the personnel of the two navies often cross-train with each other in courses such as special operations, diving, and aviation tech.
The current visit of the Bangladesh Navy Chief to India from October 22 to 29 is significant as it coincides with the golden jubilee celebration of Bangladesh's Liberation War of 1971, the Defence Ministry noted.
