Youth gets life term for murder
A court here yesterday sentenced a youth to life term imprisonment for killing a man in 2017.
The convict is Bachchu Khan, 28, of Habili Gopalgpur area in Faridpur town.
Faridpur District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Salim Mia also fined the convict Tk 10,000. In default, he is to suffer one year more in prison, Acting Public Prosecutor (PP) Dulal Chandra Sarkar said.
According to the case statement, Bachchu locked in a quarrel with his wife Ankhi Akter over a trifling matter on February 20, 2017.
Hearing the quarrel, Ankhi's elder brother Sheikh Azad, 26, who used to live near the couple's house, came forward and tried to stop the quarrel.
At one stage, angry Bachchu hit Azad on the head with an iron rod, leaving him critically injured.
Neighbours took injured Azad to Faridpur General Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
Later, Azad's father Harun Sheikh filed a murder case with Sadar Police Station accusing Bachchu.
After investigation, the then Sub-Inspector of Sadar Police Station Monir Hossain submitted the charge sheet against Bachchu on June 23, the same year.
