Sergeant's father hit by car: HC issues rule over inaction against OC for FIR manipulation
The High Court yesterday questioned the government's inaction against Banani Police Station's officer-in-charge (investigation) on the charge of manipulating the first information report (FIR) filed over the incident of hitting Monoranjan Hajong, father of traffic police Sergeant Mohua Hajong, by car on December 3 last year.
In response to a writ petition, the HC issued a rule asking the respondents to explain in 10 days as to why their inaction to take appropriate measures against Banani Police Station OC (investigation) Alamgir Gazi for allegedly manipulating the FIR should not be declared illegal.
In the rule, the court asked them to show causes why they should not be directed to take appropriate steps against Alamgir, placing him under temporary suspension and initiating departmental proceedings against him.
Home secretary, inspector general of police, commissioner and assistant commissioner (concerned) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and Alamgir Gazi have been made respondents to the rule, writ petitioner's lawyer Makkia Fatema Islam told The Daily Star.
The HC bench of Justice Zafar Ahmed and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque issued the rule following a writ petition filed by Mritunjoy Hajong, son of Monoranjan Hajong, challenging the respondent's inaction against the OC.
Monoranjan Hajong lost one of his legs after getting hit by a car on December 3 at the capital's Chairman Bari area. The car was reportedly driven by Saif Hasan, the son of an HC judge.
Writ petitioner's principal counsel ZI Khan Panna told this correspondent that after 14 days of the accident, the FIR was accepted against three "unknown persons", though the police knew the accused, which is a manipulation of the case.
The respondents have not taken any action against Alamgir for the manipulation, he added.
