Pori Moni gets permanent bail in drug case
A Dhaka court today granted permanent bail to film actress Pori Moni in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder issued the bail order after Pori Moni surrendered before the court, seeking bail in the case.
The magistrate also accepted the charges brought against Pori Moni and two others of possessing narcotics.
The court expressed dissatisfaction as she appeared before the court one and a half hours after the scheduled time.
On August 31, Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka granted her bail till submission of the police report.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police on October 4 pressed charges against Pori Moni and her two associates -- Ashraful Islam Dipu and Kabir Hossain -- in the case.
As the investigation report was submitted, her bail period expired. So, Pori Moni surrendered before it and sought bail in the case, the lawyer added.
Pori Moni and Dipu were shown arrested on August 5 in the case filed by the Rapid Action Battalion with Banani Police Station.
The previous day, members of the elite force detained them. They seized alcohol and narcotics from Pori Moni's residence.
