A Dhaka court yesterday placed actor Pori Moni and her associate Ashraful Islam Dipu on a fresh two-day remand in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

Meanwhile, the same court placed Raz Multimedia owner Nazrul Islam Raz, also an actor and director, and his associate Md Sabuj each on a fresh two-day remand in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

The court also placed them on four-day remand each in another case filed under the Pornography Control Act, court sources said.

On August 5, Pori Moni and Nazrul Islam Raz were shown arrested in two separate cases filed by the Rapid Action Battalion under the Narcotics Control Act. The previous day, members of the elite force detained Pori Moni and Raz after raiding their houses on Wednesday night. They seized foreign liquor and narcotics from there.

Dipu and Sabuj were also detained during those drives and later shown arrested.

In its forwarding letter yesterday, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) told the court that Pori Moni and Dipu have given vital information about some "masterminds" of the drug trade.

So, the investigation agency needs more time to glean information from the arrestees about those involved in drugs trading and their illegal earnings.

During the remand hearing yesterday, Pori Moni was seen crying standing inside the dock. At the time, her lawyer Mojibur Rahman said, "An actress has been in the same outfit and same mask for 122 hours. She is a heroine. She has a lifestyle."

At the time, Public Prosecutor (PP) Abdullah Abu said, she did not change her clothes on purpose. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas passed the order, by granting a two-day remand of Pori Moni and Dipu.

CID INTERROGATING PEOPLE OF VARIOUS BACKGROUNDS

Although the CID is mostly investigating cases under the Narcotics Control Act, they said they have interrogated people of various backgrounds who "have links" with the actor and models arrested recently.

"We have called and questioned several people. More will be called if necessary. However, their names should not be published in the media until their involvement is proven," CID Chief Barrister Mahbubur Rahman told reporters at his office in Malibagh yesterday, without specifying their background and involvement with the arrestees.

He said six vehicles of the arrestees have been seized so far including one of Pori Moni, two of Raz, two of model Piasha and one of her associate Mishu Hasan.

"The CID is not looking just at drug cases. In addition to this, their income and expenditure accounts, sources of funds … everything is being investigated," said the CID chief.
