Miscarriage after police ‘assault’: Kashimpur constable withdrawn
A female constable was withdrawn and attached to police lines after a pregnant woman, who is a plaintiff of a case filed under the Digital Security Act with Kashimpur Police Station, had a miscarriage following alleged police assault last week.
Constable Ruma was withdrawn from the police station last evening after a woman complained that she was assaulted by her, Deputy Commissioner (North) Md Zakir Hossain of Gazipur Metropolitan Police confirmed today.
Necessary actions will be taken once the three-member committee formed by local police on Thursday to probe into the incident submits its report, the deputy commissioner said.
The committee is scheduled to submit its report today, reports our Gazipur correspondent.
The 25-year-old complainant, who owns a beauty parlour, earlier told our correspondent that she filed the case under DSA around six months ago after several unidentified men sent her husband some fake "indecent" photos of her. The pictures were photoshopped, she claimed.
On March 1, the woman, who was three months pregnant, went to the police station to inform the officers the names of two witnesses of the case, she said. When she reached there, the officers asked her to talk to Constable Ruma.
The woman met the constable and told her the names. She requested Ruma to write down the addresses.
"As I repeatedly requested her to write down the address, she started hurling abusive words at me. When I protested, she shoved me against the wall. That hurt my nose and stomach," she said.
"I started bleeding from my nose soon afterwards and my stomach hurt. I was admitted to the hospital that night. They had to remove the foetus the next day."
The victim did not file any written complaint till today.
