Misappropriating Tk 2.57cr of Covid test fees: ACC sues medical technologist of Khulna hospital
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against a medical technologist of Khulna General Hospital for misappropriating about Tk 2.57 crore -- collected as Covid-19 test fees.
The ACC filed the case against Prakash Kumar Das, medical technologist (lab) of the 250-bed Khulna General Hospital, confirms ACC's Public Relations Office.
Prakash was charged to collect Covid-19 test fees.
A five-member probe committee led by civil surgeon of the hospital Dr Niaz Mohammad found that a total of Tk 4.24 crore was collected between July 2020 and July 2021.
Of the money, only Tk 1.66 crore was deposited at the exchequer.
"He did not deposit the remaining Tk 2.57 core and misappropriated it," reads the FIR.
Civil surgeon office informed the matter to the higher authority. Upon their approval, they filed a general diary with Khulna Police Station on September 27.
Later, the civil surgeon office submitted a complaint to ACC.
Almost 50 days later, today, the ACC filed a case under section 409/420 of the Penal Code and 5(2) of The Prevention of Corruption Act, 194 for cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal misconduct.
