Sub-registrar office assistant jailed
A Kushtia court today sent an office assistant of Kushtia's Daulatpur upazila sub-registrar (land) office who was arrested last night along with Tk 31,200 in bribe money, to jail today.
The woman was identified as Jannatul Ferdous Munni, of East Majampur area of Kushtia town, reports our local correspondent quoting Al-Mujahid Mithu, lawyer of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of the district office.
Kushtia District and Session Court Judge Abu Taher passed the order when Munni was produced before the court this afternoon.
Mohammad Zakaria, deputy director of Kushtia ACC, said they heard various corruption allegations against this office.
The office allegedly collected extra Tk1,500 to 2,000 per document for land registry on a regular basis, he said.
Later, an ACC team led by Additional Director Neel Kamal Pal, assistant director of Kushtia ACC, raided the office from 5:30pm to 9:30pm yesterday, the DD said.
The ACC team searched office assistant Munni's desk and recovered Tk 31,200 from her drawer, the DD said, adding that she could not provide any valid explanation about the source of money.
Later, she was handed over to Daulatpur police that night.
ACC AD Neel filed a case against the woman with the police facility.
