HC asks ACC to probe ‘Ctg port paying Tk 23cr without receiving purchased tugboat’
The High Court today directed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to conduct an inquiry into the allegation against Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) of paying Tk 23 crore to a shipbuilding company without receiving the purchased tugboat (to assist marine vessels).
The ACC has been ordered to submit the inquiry report to the court in two months.
The HC also asked the CPA and law enforcers to assist the ACC in conducting the inquiry.
The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman delivered the order on a suo moto (voluntary) move following a news report published on Bangla daily Desh Rupantor.
According to the report, the CPA has paid Tk 23 crore to New Western Marine Shipbuilders Ltd, for a tugboat although the company has not handed over the tugboat to the CPA.
Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for ACC and Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state during the virtual court proceedings.
