Hajiganj communal attack: Jamaat leader confesses involvement
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Md Kamal Uddin Abbasi has given a confessional statement before a court over his involvement in the vandalism at puja mandaps and clash with police in Chandpur's Hajiganj.
In his statement, he also revealed the names of others involved in the incident, reports our Chandpur correspondent quoting Milan Mahmud, superintendent of Chandpur Police.
The SP said Jamaat leader Abbasi was arrested on Wednesday after evaluating CCTV footage.
He confessed his involvement to the crime before the court and revealed names of others involved in the incident, the SP said.
He added that operation is on to arrest the other accused.
SP Milan said they have registered 10 cases over the Hajiganj incident. Of them, two cases were filed by police and the rest were filed by members of the local Hindu community.
A total of 5,000 people were made accused in the 10 cases, he said, adding that they have arrested 29 people including Abbasi in connection with the incident so far.
