Ex-student of DU found dead in Chankharpool
A former student of Dhaka University who was preparing for job exams, was found dead at a mess in old Dhaka's Chankharpool area this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Masud Al Mahdi alias Apu (27), who completed his masters at Mass Communication and Journalism Department in 2018.
He had led different movement on the campus and was part of the Ducsu polls, his friends said.
The deceased's roommate Al Imran said three people including Apu used to live in a room on the seventh floor of the eight-storey building. The top five floors of the building are used as mess where nearly 200 students live.
"When I came to the room to have lunch, I found the door locked from inside and saw him hanging from the ceiling fan with a scarf through the window. We broke open the door and informed police," he said.
On information, police rushed there and sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the evening for autopsy.
A video clip of the incident showed that the knees of the deceased were touching the ground.
The deceased's friends and juniors at the department suspect he was murdered and hanged later on.
They demanded impartial investigation into the incident.
Jasim Uddin Molla, deputy commissioner of Lalbagh Division Police said the mess members said the youth died by suicide.
"We have collected evidence from the spot. We will be able to say for sure whether it is a case of suicide or murder after investigation," he said.
