Ex-SP Babul files complaint against 6 PBI officials over custodial torture
Former superintendent of police Babul Akter, who is now behind bars in a case filed over the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, today (September 8, 2022) lodged a complaint accusing PBI chief Banaj Kumar Majumdar of torturing him in PBI custody.
The complaint was also filed against five police personnel including two SP, reports our staff correspondent in Chattogram.
The officials are PBI's Chattogram District SP Nazmul Hasan; PBI Ctg metro unit SP Naima Sultana; former investigation officer of Mitu murder case and Officer-in-Charge of CMP Khulshi Police Station Sontosh Kumar Chakma; former PBI inspectors AKM Mohiuddin Selim and PBI Kazi Enayet Kabir.
Babul Akter's lawyer advocate Golam Mowla Murad submitted the complaint to Metropolitan Session Judge Begum Jebunnesa around 12:00 pm.
Murad told The Daily Star, "We placed the complaint before the court and the court has kept it for passing order."
Babul filed the complaint bringing the allegation that he was tortured physically and mentally when he was taken into PBI custody before his arrest in the Mitu murder case, he said.
"We demand a judicial inquiry over the incident and justice in this connection," he added.
On June 5, 2016, Mitu was stabbed and shot dead when she was walking her son to his school-bus stop at the port city's GEC intersection. After the murder, Babul filed a case against three unidentified men at Panchlaish Police Station.
PBI took charge of the case, which Babul filed with Panchlaish Police Station against three unnamed accused, from Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) in February 2020 and started further investigation. Babul was shown arrested in the murder case on May 2021.
