Evaly customer files case: Tahsan, Mithila, Sabnam Faria under surveillance, say police
Police today said musician Tahsan Khan and actors Rafiath Rashid Mithila, Sabnam Faria are under surveillance after a case was filed by an aggrieved customer of e-commerce platform Evaly.
"Since a case has been filed, they are under our watch and could be arrested any time," Sazzadur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Ramna Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told journalists at his office today.
A disgruntled customer, Saad Sam Rahman, filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station on December 4, bringing fraud charges against nine accused including the three celebrities for embezzling Tk 3.18 lakh.
"They cannot avoid responsibility," DC Sazzadur said.
Tahsan was the Chief Goodwill Officer of Evaly, and Mithila was the face of the company's lifestyle products. Sabnam was the Head of PR, Media, and Communication at Evaly.
Other accused are former Evaly officials -- chairman Shamima Nasrin, managing director and CEO Mohammad Rassel, chief marketing officer Akash, social media figure Arif R Hossain, head of category Mohammad Abu Taher Saddam, and executive of operations Abu Tayes.
Rapid Action Battalion arrested the CEO of Evaly, Mohammad Rassel, and the company's chairman and his wife, Shamima Nasrin, in September this year in connection with a lawsuit filed by a customer alleging fraud. Since then, they have been behind bars.
The Evaly customer claimed that he had ordered products worth hundreds of thousands of taka from Evaly, which were never delivered to him.
Complainant Saad Sam Rahman said he trusted the e-commerce platform seeing involvement of the celebrities with the company.
He then ordered a motorcycle worth Tk 3.18 lakh, but did not get it despite reaching out several times, said the case statement.
When contacted today, Saad told The Daily Star that soon after the arrest of Evaly MD and chairman he went to Gulshan and Dhanmondi police stations to file a case, but to no avail.
He said he then lodged a case with a Dhaka court which ordered Dhanmondi Police Station to accept his compliant and register a case.
