'Drug traders' clash in N'ganj injured 11
At least 11 people were injured in a clash between two groups of drug traders at Chonpara area of Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila today.
Of them, a day labour Md Syed Kha, 55, sustained bullet injuries, reports our Narayanganj correspondent quoting police.
He is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). The bullet-hit person was brought to the hospital at around 2:30pm, said Inspector Bachchu Miah, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
This comes a month after three people sustained bullet wounds in a similar clash on April 11.
Quoting relatives, Bachchu said the victim was hit by a stray bullet.
Locals said there is a longstanding rivalry between two groups of drug traders. One is led by Samser Ali and Sahabuddin, while another by Jaynal.
They locked in a clash this afternoon, said locals.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Narayanganj Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Abir Hossain.
Police arrested five people from the spot. Additional law enforcers have been deployed to maintain law and order, he added.
Contacted, both Samser and Jaynal claimed they were not involved with drug trading. Both of them accused each other for the drug trade in the area and the violence.
The Chonpara area, a haven for drug dealers, became the talk of the town after a Buet student Fardin Noor Parash was killed last year.
Fardin, a third-year student of civil engineering department of Buet, went missing on November 4 last year and his body was recovered from Shitalakkhya at Banani Ghat under Siddhirganj Police Station around November 7.
Many believed that Fardin was killed in Chonpara slum area by a gang of drug dealers while detectives claimed it was by suicide.
