Clash over ‘Facebook comment’ leaves 3 dead
Three people were killed and several others were injured in a clash, reportedly over comment made on Facebook, in Shommania union under Gazipur's Kapasia last night.
The dead are: Nayeem Hossain (17), Faruk Mia (25), and Robin Mia (20). They were residents of Dakkhingaon village in the union, our Gazipur correspondent reports.
AFM Nasim, officer-in-charge of Kapasia Police Station, said the clash happened around 11:30pm last night between inhabitants of Kapasia and Monohordi upazila under Narsingdi district -- leaving three people dead.
"We came to know that the clash occurred over a Facebook comment. We are investigating the incident," he said.
Jahangir Alam, member of ward 5 of Shommania union, said that the clash occurred between two groups of youths led by one Yasin in Monohordi's Daulatpur, adjacent to Narsingdi district, and Nayeem of the union.
They locked into the clash over a comment made on a Facebook post of one Zahid's wife, a resident of Kapasia's Char Alinagar.
At one stage, Nayeem, Faruk, Robin and several others were stabbed. They were rushed to Monohordi Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Nayeem and Faruk dead.
Robin died on the way while he was being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital from Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
Jahangir added that locals apprehended six people from the spot and handed them over to the police.
Two of the detainees, who sustained injuries in the clash, were undergoing treatment at Kapasia Upazila Health Complex.
