CID press charges against Evaly CEO Rassel
The Criminal Investigation Department has pressed charges against Evaly Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rassel and seven others in a fraud case.
The seven others are Rassel's wife Shamima Nasrin, also chairman of the e-commerce platform, and its manager Jahedul Islam, head of accounts Selim Reza, accounts manager Jubayer Al Mahmud, bike department officer Sakib Rahman, Rassel's personal secretary Md Rezwan and Akibur Rahman Turjo.
Investigation Officer Emdadul Kabir, also a CID sub-inspector, yesterday (September 4, 2022) submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka.
The investigator also pleaded with the court to relieve Evaly's vice-president Akash, senior accounts manager Tanvir Alam, senior executive (commercial) Jawadul Haque Chowdhury and accounts department staff Sohel from the charges of the case.
On September 19 last year, one Kamrul Islam Chakdar, who has four businesses in the capital's Paltan, Evaly CEO Rassel, his wife Shamima, and 12 officials of the company with Dhanmondi Police Station on charges of embezzlement and threatening.
In the case statement, Kamrul alleged that he supplied goods worth around Tk 35 lakh but Evaly did not pay him since January 2021.
It gave him a post-date bank cheque in May, but it bounced twice as the company did not have enough money in their account in June, added the case statement.
"Evaly had signed an agreement that it would pay the money within 30 days of delivering products. But it didn't abide by that even after I filed a general diary in January in this regard," the complainant wrote in the complaint.
Rassel is now behind bars, while Shamima is out on bail.
On September 16 last year, Rab arrested Rassel and Shamima during a raid at their flat in the capital's Mohammadpur, following an embezzlement case filed by a customer.
