Bulbul a victim of mugging: Detectives say after arresting 4
Dentist Ahmed Mahi Bulbul is a victim of a mugging gang who stabbed him to death as the physician tried to resist them on Sunday, detectives said.
The officials came up with the findings today, hours after arresting four alleged muggers from Dhaka's Pallabi and Savar over the killing.
The arrestees are: Raihan alias Sohel, alias Apan (27), Rasel Hossain Hawlader (25), Ariyan Khan Ridoy (23), and Solaiman (23).
All the arrestees are professional muggers, AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (detectives) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police told a press briefing.
Law enforcers also recovered a cell phone belonging to the victim and a knife used as a murder weapon from the arrestees, he said.
Bulbul bled to death after being stabbed in Mirpur's Kazipara on his way to Noakhali on Sunday.
Family then suspected he was killed due to enmity as Bulbul, also a contractor, had got work of a project in Noakhali.
When asked, the DB official said they primarily found the killings an act of mugging. "Police, however, will also focus on the family's allegation during investigation."
According to detectives, five people including the four arrestees gathered on Begum Rokeya Sarani when the doctor on an auto-rickshaw was passing the area.
Three of them intercepted the vehicle and attempted to rob him. As the dentist resisted, they stabbed Bulbul in the thigh, the officials said, adding that detectives are trying to arrest another mugger.
