Arrest, try perpetrators at once

Demand two slain schoolboys’ fellows in Patuakhali

Students of Indrakul Secondary School in Patuakhali demonstrated on campus yesterday, demanding immediate arrest and trial of those who killed two of their fellows the day before.

The two schoolboys -- Nafis and Siam, 10th-graders -- were stabbed to death during a feud with their juniors in Patuakhali's Baufal on Wednesday.

After their classes were over around 4:00pm that day, they started heading home. On the way, they locked into an altercation with some junior students, said police.

At one point, they were stabbed allegedly by some students of ninth grade. Later, they succumbed to their injuries at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal.

At the protest yesterday, their classmates were seen mourning the loss.

A 10th-grader said he was also injured in the attack carried out due to a quarrel over senior-junior issues.

The victims' classmate Md Shihab Uddin said, "Both the two [the deceased] were brilliant students. Their deaths cannot be accepted in any way."

Another classmate Rabeya Bashri said their protest will continue until the attackers are arrested.

The school head-teacher Mizanur Rahman expressed anger at police for not being able to arrest any of the attackers.

Parents and locals also participated in the protest, demanding the attackers' speedy arrest and trial.

Contacted, Baufal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Al Mamun said operations are on to arrest them. "Hopefully we will be successful within a short time."
