Anti-Modi protests: Hefazat top leader walks out of jail
Hefazat top leader Mufti Harun Bin Izhar, alias Harun Izhar walked out of the Chattogram Central Jail last night, securing bail in 11 cases filed against him with Hathazari and Patiya police stations over the mayhem during the anti-Modi protests in 2021.
Confirming the incident Chattogram District Additional SP (DSB) Abu Tyeb Md Arif told The Daily Star that Harun secured bail in every case filed against him in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Rajshahi.
"He walked out of jail around 9:30pm."
"Izhar was accused in 28 cases, including the 11 cases filed in Chattogram. Though he is now out on bail, he will be kept under our observation," he said.
Mufti Harun Izhar, education and cultural affairs secretary of the now-dissolved central committee of Hefajat-e-Islam, was arrested from Jamiyatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa, known as Lalkhan Bazar madrasa, in Chattogram city on the night of April 29, 2021.
He was later shown arrested in three cases filed over violence in Hathazari.
