Abrar Fahad murder case: Prosecution seeks exemplary punishment for all accused
The prosecution today sought exemplary punishment for all the 25 accused in Buet student Abrar Fahad murder case.
During the closing arguments, Mosharraf Hossain Kajol, chief public prosecutor of the case, made the appeal to Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka, the court sources said.
Tomorrow the prosecution will place submissions on different higher courts rulings in support of sentencing all the accused with capital punishment in the case.
During today's hearing, the 22 accused, who are now behind bars, were produced before the tribunal.
Three other accused, Mustaba Rafid, Muhammad Morshed-Uz-Zaman Mondol alias Jishan and Ehtashamul Rabbi Tanim, have been absconding since the incident.
Earlier, 46 prosecution witnesses, including the complainant of the case, gave their depositions before the tribunal.
On October 7 of 2019, Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), was beaten to death by a group of Buet unit's Chhatra League men in a dormitory.
Abrar's father Barkatullah filed a murder case in this connection with Chawkbazar Police Station on October 7 the same year.
Inspector Md Wahiduzaman of Detective Branch of police submitted the charge sheet of the case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka against 25 Buet students on November 13, 2019.
During the investigation, eight of the accused gave confessional statements to magistrates on different dates.
On September 15 last year, the tribunal framed charges against the accused.
