Police claimed to have arrested nine people who have allegedly laundered money through online gambling.

Gazipur police arrested them at different places of the country on Wednesday night, said Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mollah Nazrul Islam at a press briefing yesterday.

The arrestees -- Nasir Mridha, Maruf Hossain, Jahidul Islam, Ashiqur Rahman, Kawsar Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Ashiqul Haque, Akram Hossain and Murad Hasan -- are from Gazipur and Mymensingh.

On a tip off, police arrested Nasir, and following his confession, arrested the rest, said the police official.

They used to bet on football and cricket matches and laundered money abroad using different apps, he said. Two cases -- one under the Digital Security Act and another under Money Laundering Act -- have been filed against the arrestees.
