6 'Al Qaeda-inspired' men placed on remand
A Dhaka court today placed six suspected militants who were inspired by militant group Al-Qaeda, on a five-day remand each in a case filed with Jatrabari Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The arrestees are Abdur Rob, Md Shakib, Md Shamim Hossain, Md Nadeem Sheikh, Md Abshar and Md Sayeed Uddin.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tariqul Islam passed the order after Md Rafiqul Islam, a sub-inspector of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.
In the remand prayer, the IO said all the accused were directly involved in creating anarchy and were engaged in subversive activities. As such, they need to be remanded to gather information, the remand prayer added.
They were arrested from the capital's Sayedabad Bus Terminal, Chattogram and Teknaf yesterday.
