4 arrested for raping madrasa student in Narayanganj
Four youths have been arrested over the rape of a madrasa student in Narayanganj's Rupganj upazila. The main suspect in the case has yet to be arrested.
They were arrested from Koyetpara area of the upazila this morning. Later in the afternoon, the police petitioned for a seven-day remand after producing them before a Narayanganj court, reports our local correspondent.
The arrestees are Md Munna, Osman Mia, Shakib Mia, and Anik Islam of Kaitpara area of the upazila. They are aged between 19 and 20. Zahir Hossain, the main suspect, is a fugitive on the run.
Quoting the case statement, Hazrat Ali, inspector (operations) of Rupganj Police Station, said, "Zahir, with the help of his four associates, picked up a Class 6 student of a local madrasa around 8pm on April 13. They then gang-raped her in the nearby area of Chanpara Bazarghat."
"The five youths fled the scene after the student passed out. Later, the family members searched and with the help of the locals, rescued the victim around midnight and took her home," he added.
The next day, when the victim's health deteriorated, she was first taken to Rupganj Upazila Health Complex. From there, she was moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
Last afternoon, the victim's elder brother filed a case with Rupganj Police Station against five people.
"Four were arrested today after conducting raids since last night. Efforts are on to arrest one of the fugitives. The four arrested have been produced before a court with a seven-day remand plea. Till 5 pm, the court did not pass any order," said the inspector.
