13 Indian fishermen detained from Bay of Bengal for intrusion
Bangladesh Coast Guard detained 13 Indian fishermen and seized a fishing trawler from the Bay of Bengal for illegally entering Bangladesh territory.
Lieutenant M Mamunur Rahman, operation officer, Coast Guard Mongla (West Zone), said a team of Coast Guard members found an Indian fishing trawler in Bangladeshi territory while patrolling at 17 nautical mile northwest of Fairway Bouy in the Bay last night.
The Coast Guard members seized the fishing trawler and detained the 13 Indian fishermen from the trawler, said the operation officer.
The Coast Guard official did not disclose the names of the Indian nationals, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
The detained fishermen and seized trawler, nets and goods were handed over to Mongla Police Station this noon, said Mohammad Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
The Indian fishermen will be produced before court soon, added the OC.
