Munshiganj fire: Entire family perishes with Shanta’s death today
A woman succumbed to burn injuries early today at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery -- just days after losing her husband and two children to the same incident.
Four of them sustained burn injuries in a fire at their house in Char Muktarpur area of Munshiganj's Sadar upazila on December 2.
The deceased is Shanta Begum (38). Her daughter Nahar Khan (3) and son Md Yasin Khan (6) died on December 2. Her husband Kausar Khan (42) died on December 4, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Bachchu Mia, inspector in charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost.
According to Abdullah Al Masud, Shanta's brother, "Her remains will be taken to their hometown of Kishoreganj. After janaza, she will be buried in the family graveyard, next to her children and husband."
"A three-member investigation committee has been formed to identify the cause of the fire," Mezbah Uddin Ahmed, manager of Titas Gas in Munshiganj, said.
On December 4, the investigation began. Within seven working days, the investigation report will be completed, he added.
Rajib Khan, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, said no verbal or written complaint had been received from the victims' families.
During preliminary investigation, Md Abu Yusuf, senior station officer of Munshiganj Fire Service Station, said the fire started due to a gas leak.
