'I often come here for shopping'
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said he can understand the loss of businesses in the Bangabazar fire as he often went there for shopping.
"This is a huge loss before the Eid. I know this because I often come here for shopping. We can buy products at a cheap price from here; it is five times cheaper than the prices in many shops elsewhere," Momen told the reporters while visiting the area this afternoon.
"This is very sad for us," he said, adding that at least 50,000 people have been victims of the fire.
"Around five-six thousand shops; if there are six employees… and their families ... At least 50,000 people have been victims for sure."
The minister also highlighted the need for awareness among people to prevent fire incidents as well as installing adequate fire hydrants to ensure necessary water source for the fire fighters.
Earlier, the minister talked to the businessmen who lost everything in the fire.
