Husband, wife among 4 killed in Khulna road accident
Four people, including a husband and wife, were killed after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw fell into a roadside ditch in Dumuria upazila of Khulna this afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Ilias Sardar (45), Reshma Khatun ( 45), Babu (28) and his wife Shiuli (20) of Dumuria upazila, reports our Khulna correspondent.
All were passengers of the auto-rickshaw.
Mohammad Obaidur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dumuria Police Station, said the accident happened on Khulna-Satkhira Highway in East Jilerdanga area around 2:00pm when the auto-rickshaw attempted to overtake a sand laden truck headed towards Khulna.
The OC said the three-wheeler got stuck in the bumper of the truck and drivers of both vehicles to lose control, and the truck and the auto-rickshaw fell into a roadside ditch.
"None could get out of the auto-rickshaw. On information, Dumuria Fire Service members recovered the bodies of four auto-rickshaw passengers from the water after a four-hour effort," said the police official.
Following the accident, traffic movement was disrupted for four hours on both sides of the Khulna-Satkhira highway.
Traffic movement returned to normal normalcy around 6:00pm.
