Fire in Narayanganj leather factory under control
The fire at United Leather factory in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj is now under control.
Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of the Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, told The Daily Star that after two hours of efforts, 13 fire units brought the blaze under control. There were no reported casualties.
The fire was put out at 2pm today, said Abdullah, adding that members of the fire service are still at the site, reports our correspondent.
"We don't know yet how the fire started," Abdullah said.
"The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be revealed after the conclusion of the investigation," he added.
Locals said, around 12pm today, black smoke was seen coming from the factory. Due to the lockdown, the factory was closed. Later, the factory's management contacted the fire department.
