Fire at Bailey Road shopping mall doused

A fire that broke out at a basement on the ground floor of a 10-storey building, Siraj Capital Centre, in Dhaka's Bailey Road was doused after one and a half hours.

Eight fire engines went to the spot and doused at 8:38pm, said Rezaul Islam, duty officer of control room at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

Three firefighting units responded to the call after the fire broke out at 6:47pm. The fire was later brought under control at 7:48pm.

Eighteen people -- two children, nine women, and seven men -- were rescued from the rooftop, he said.

The cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
