Centenarian burnt to death in Ctg fire
A 103-year-old man was killed and 66 shops and two houses were gutted in a fire that swept through a part of Kalshi Dighirpar area in Chattogram city's EPZ area today (May 18, 2022).
The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim (103) of Kalshi Dighi area, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports quoting Faruk Hossen Sikder, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Chattogram.
The fire broke out at a house in the Kalshi Dighi area around 11am which soon engulfed adjacent shops and house, he said.
On information, 11 units of firefighting team rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 1:30pm after two and half hours of frantic effort.
Later, firefighters recovered the body of Karim from a house, the fire official added.
Some 64 shops and two houses were burnt to ashes in the blaze, said the fire service official.
A probe body was formed to investigate the incident, he added.
