6 killed, 11 hurt in road accidents
Six people were killed and at least eleven others were injured in three separate accidents in Gazipur's Pubail, Jhenaidah's Shailkupa upazila and Dinajpur's Nababganj upazila today.
In Gazipur, three persons were killed and at least four others were injured as a truck hit an auto-rickshaw in Pubail College Gate area this evening, said Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Pubail Police Station.
Relatives brought the victims to the hospital. Of them, three were brought dead while four others are being treated in critical condition, said Dr Rafiqul Islam, resident doctor at Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.
The identities of the victims could not be known till filing of this report around 8:30pm today.
In Jhenaidah, traders Mahadeb Kumar, 60; Khokon Hossain, 29, and two others of Vaina village under Harinakundu upazila were going to Garaganj with betel leaves in a human hauler. A Kushtia-bound bus of Rupsa Paribahan hit the human hauler, approaching from opposite direction, on Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway at Garaganj bridge area in the afternoon, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jhenaidah Highway Police Station.
Khokon died on the spot. Firefighters rushed the injured to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared Mahadeb dead.
"One of the injured is in a critical condition. We have seized the bus but no one could be detained in this connection," added the OC.
Meanwhile, six people were injured after a CNG-run auto rickshaw collided with a battery-operated autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction at Kachdaha village in the upazila in the evening, said Touhidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Nababganj Police Station.
The injured were taken to the local upazila health complex where Madrasa employee Abul Bashar, 58, of Belkhuria village in Dinajpur's Birampur upazila succumbed to his injuries. The other injured are currently under treatment at the health complex.
