Modi pays tribute to Muktijoddhas, Biranganas and members of Indian Army for sacrifices in Liberation War
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tribute to the Muktijoddha, Birangana and Indian armed forces members who took part in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, Modi stated that India and Bangladesh together fought and defeated oppressive forces, our New Delhi correspondent reports.
President Ram Nath Kovind's presence in Dhaka today "is of special significance to every Indian," he added.
"On the 50th Vijay Diwas, I recall the great valour and sacrifice by the Muktijoddhas, Biranganas and bravehearts of the Indian Armed Forces. Together, we fought and defeated oppressive forces. Rashtrapati Ji's presence in Dhaka is of special significance to every Indian," his post reads.
Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also congratulated Bangladesh's foreign minister, its people and the government on the 50th Victory Day celebrations of the country.
"Extend warmest congratulations to FM Dr. AK Abdul Momen and the Government and people of Bangladesh on the 50th Victory Day celebrations," read the tweet of Jaishankar.
"The valiant fight of people of Bangladesh led by Bangabandhu against oppression & genocide will always inspire us," it added.
