Arrest Rana, 4 factory owners: PM
This April 24 photo shows, locals gather at the tragic sight in Savar where at least eighty people were killed in a building collapse.
Two days into the Savar tragedy, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered the arrest of Rana Plaza owner and four proprietors of the garment factories housed in the building.
Prime minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad confirmed it to The Daily Star on Friday afternoon.
Mahbubul Hoque Shakil, special assistant (Media) to the prime minister, told The Daily Star that the order has already been sent to all agencies concerned.
Sources at the PMO said the agencies have already started operations to execute the prime minister's order to arrest the people responsible for the tragedy.
Hours before the prime minister's arrest order, two relatives of Sohel Rana, owner of the Rana Plaza, have been picked up from their native village in Manikganj.
Shawkat Ali, officer-in-charge of Harirampur Police Station, said they handed over the duo to Savar police on Friday morning, reports our Manikganj correspondent.
Rescuers kept on pulling out more bodies from inside the rubble two days after the nine-storey Rana Plaza in Savar was razed to the ground.
Till Friday, 2,348 victims -- 304 deceased and 2044 alive -- have so far been pulled out from the ruins since the nine-story building collapsed Wednesday morning.
