Three Ansar officers closed on bribery charges
Three officers of Lalmonirhat Ansar VDP were closed to Rajshahi range yesterday for allegedly taking bribes from job seekers in the name of recruiting them as Ansar members under the district Ansar and VDP camp.
The officers were identified as Circle Adjutant of Lalmonirhat Ansar camp Gias Uddin, Sadar Upazila Officer Hamidul Haque and Aditmari Upazila Officer Mizanur Rahman.
The order in a fax report was sent from Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Ansar in Dhaka on Thursday night, concerned sources said.
The officers took Tk 20,000 to 25,000 as bribes from the each job seeker for giving them jobs on Wednesday.
A clash occurred between Ansar members and locals at College Para over recruiting VDP members through taking bribes. At least 20 people, including a police constable and two Ansar members, were injured in the clash.
Later, a five-member probe body was formed with Lalmonirhat 18 Ansar Battalion Adjutant Altaf Hossain as its head. The DG took the decision to close the three after the primary enquiry.
The probe body chief said the concerned authorities would take stern action against the officers if they are finally found guilty after the inquiry for a week.
Some 48 normal Ansar members were estimated to be recruited in one panel on Tuesday, but the recruitment was postponed for an indefinite, officials said.
