Why Lobi won't be allowed to go abroad

HC asks govt

The High Court (HC) yesterday issued a rule upon the government to explain within two weeks why it (government) should not be directed to allow former BNP lawmaker Ali Asgar Lobi to go abroad for treatment and return to the country.
The HC bench of Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana and Justice Md Shamsul Huda issued the rule following a writ petition filed by Lobi.
The home secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), director general (DG) of the immigration (Passport) and its officer-in-charge (OC) were asked to reply to the rule.
Lobi filed the writ petition seeking a direction towards the government to allow him to go abroad for treatment and come back to the country.
During the hearing, the petitioner's lawyer Shah Monjurul Hoque told the court that his client is scheduled to go to London and Singapore for treatment on April 19, but he fears that he might be prevented from leaving the country in the wake of some newspaper reports.
Some newspapers have published reports that the government has prepared a list of 62 persons, including Lobi, who will not be allowed to leave the country, he added.
Opposing the writ petition, Additional Attorney General MK Rahman argued that Lobi has been convicted in two criminal cases, but the government has not imposed any restrictions on his travel abroad.
