New RU proctor, asst proctors take charge

Rajshahi University (RU) authorities yesterday appointed proctor, six assistant proctors and students' adviser of the university (RU).
Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan, who was appointed by the chancellor of the university on February 24, made Prof Zakaria of chemistry department as proctor and six others as assistant proctors.
He also appointed Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar Tapu of zoology and mining department as students' adviser.
The newly appointed assistant proctors are Sayed Mohiuddin Abdus Salam of applied chemistry and chemical technology department, Asrafuzzaman of Islamic studies department, Tarek Noor of political science department, Mushtaq Ahmed of mass communication and journalism department, Mosle Uddin of crop science department and Rezaul Karim of language and culture department.
They all took over the charges yesterday and sought cooperation of teachers, students, officers and employees in performing their respective duties.
Earlier on January 26, proctor Enamul Haque, students' adviser Faridul Islam Pintu and all nine assistant proctors having alleged links to Jamaat resigned en masse in the wake of demand for their resignation from various student organisations.
Meanwhile, the agitating students of folklore department yesterday called on the vice-chancellor at his office and urged him to place their department under Social Science Faculty.
The folklore department is now under Arts Faculty.
The students also gave a seven days' ultimatum to the university authorities to meet the demand. Otherwise, they threatened to observe hunger strike on the campus.
When contacted, department chairman M Shahidur Rahman said he has already requested the authorities to take necessary steps in this regard.
