35 sued for grabbing rly land
Six hundred land grabbers have encroached upon about 200 acres of railway land worth 30 crores of taka under Lalmonirhat railway division.
The railway authorities here filed cases against 35 in the district town on February 15 with a local court. Lalmonirhat West Zone Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Kazi Rafiqul Alam filed the cases on behalf of Bangladesh Railway (BR).
The railway authorities sued Shah Alam advocate of Lalmonirhat judge's court, Mohammad Ahmed, son of Abdus Sattar, Manik Clerk, son of Rajkumar, Sabur Ali, son of Yar Bux, Sadekur Rahaman Shaikh, son Sikim Ali Shaikh, Golam Mostafa son of late Abdul Karim, Takor Hossain son of late Ataur Rahaman, Abu Bakkar, son of unidentified person, Abdul Barek son of Abdul jalil, Ali Akbar, son of Chan Miah, Rafikul Alam Velu, son of Manir Uddin Sarker, Abdul Haque, son of Mofiz Uddin Sarker, Khorshed Alam, son of Bozlur Rahman, Mizanur Rahman, son of Aftab Uddin, Golam Mostafa, son of late Nabi Hossain, Sobuj Ali, son of Abdul Karim, Bahar Uddin, son of late Mofiz, Prof (retd) Habibur Rahman, Abdul Jalil Sarker, son of Babar Ali Sarker, Ayesha Siddiqua, wife of Azad Hossain, Momtaz Bepari, son of Mitu Bapari, Sujon Miah, son of Abdur Rashid, Fazlul Haque, son of late Arif Miah, Shafikul Islam, son of late Jamir Uddin, Mizanur Rahaman, son of Aftab Ali, Shamsul Haque, son of Karom Ali Sarker, Abdul Aziz, son of Ahmed Ali Munshi, Khokan Miah, son of late Jamat Ali, Emdadul Haque, son of late Nechab Uddin Haji, Motaharul Islam, son of late Ershadul Haque, Mokhlesur Rahaman Moju, son of late Azizur Rahman, Babar Hossain, son of Haji Hafiz Uddin Sikder, Shamser Ali Kuri, son of Monir Uddin and Jomila Khatun wife of Montu Miah. All of them are residents of Khorda Saptana area in Lalmonirhat town.
According to the case, the land grabbers took illegal possession of about 15 acres of railway lands many years ago and built houses on them.
The railway authorities served notices several times on them to vacate the lands. Later, permission was sought from court to demolish the illegal structures on railway land, railway officials said.
Official sources said, there are more than 11,296 acres of land under Lalmonirhat railway division.
The land grabbers gradually took control of about 200 acres, they informed.
Sources said, some dishonest officials leased out railway land to local influentials for agriculture, fish farming and other purposes. But the agreements are not being renewed for years depriving the government of huge amount of revenue.
Lalmonirhat Divisional Railway Estate Officer (DEO) Abdul Aziz told this correspondent that the railway authorities would file cases against about 600 land grabbers in Lalmonirhat, Kawnia, Rangpur, Parbotipur, Bogra, Bonarpara and other places under Lalmonirhat division. Railway estate department will move the cases against railway land grabbers, he said.
